Pipe Camera Troubleshooting Guide

25th Oct 2022

Duracable operates an authorized repair center staffed by experienced, trained technicians certified by RidgidPicote and DrainGear. Refer to the back of our product catalog for details on our repair services. Here’s a quick guide to identifying some common pipe camera problems:

  • If the picture is not showing on your monitor, the camera head may need to be repaired, but it may be that the distance counter ring needs to be replaced. Our repair technicians are experienced in properly installing refurbished standard, self-leveling, mini and MicroReel camera heads. Dim, flickering or inconsistent lighting could indicate that your camera head needs to be replaced, but often flickering can be caused by a faulty slip ring or counter. Flickering while the drum is in motion is typically indicative of a slip ring needing to be replaced.
  • Push rods occasionally get kinked or broken, especially if they get stuck in a line. Our expert technicians can fix the kink and perform a standard or dry end retermination by cutting off the problem area. Over time, your camera’s push rod can wear down from rubbing on the guide frame. Modifying the rod guide and repairing or replacing the rod can give your camera many more years of life.
  • We can also replace a cracked or damaged hub assembly, replace a non-functioning footage counter, or replace a worn spring. The camera spring can overstretch, kink or break if your camera gets stuck in a pipe line. Springs lose their elasticity over time and should be replaced.
  • If you’re getting a weak, intermittent or no signal on your pipe locator from your sonde, chances are your sonde needs to be replaced.

You don’t need to diagnose the problem before sending your camera to us for repairs. Let our experts get your equipment working again quickly.
